About Us

Andrea Cotman

I have lived in the Green Valley neighborhood with my husband James (aka PopPop) for 25 years. I am also a mother, a coffee lover, and avid crafter, a rebel, and most importantly a Christian.

I opened Andy’s Room Childcare after 20+ years as a nanny and a preschool teacher! I LOVED it, so family childcare was the next logical step! Andy’s Room maintains dual licenses for both Arlington County and the state of Virginia. In 2017 after 32 years as a diesel mechanic for WMATA, I hired my husband to join Andy’s Room team! Instantly “POP POP” was the clear favorite with the kids! Both of us are CPR and First Aid Certified and I hold a MAT certification as well. We both enjoy sharing our time with children! Childcare is not my job by default, but by preparation, deliberate intention, and clear choice!

We look forward to serving you and your family.

My Philosophy

The first years of every child’s life are by far the most important in that they lay the foundation for everything that follows. Andy’s Room Childcare strives to maintain a welcoming, safe and nurturing environment to that end. I believe that children should
have plenty of time to just be children and my childcare home is semi-structured and exploration based. A great childcare experience is due in part to great communication between the provider(s) and you the parents. The fact that you are entrusting us with your little one is not lost on us and we work hard to exceed your expectations.

My Beliefs

I believe that children should be in a warm, loving, nurturing environment that addresses/meets their social, emotional, cognitive and physical needs. I also believe that a parents job is to provide for those needs and work within his/her “village” to raise a child(ren) in the most socially responsible way for the benefit of his/her child(ren).
